1. Introduction
2007-06-26
Choose which type of the camera to buy is no easy task. Everyone wants it to have the greatest value and
to fulfil the demands at the lowest price. Unfortunately it's quite common that we are under the influence of the
supermarket's advertisements, which offer is full of the simplest models of the cameras. Often the description, which
we use to support our decision, is short, unhelpful and it's impossible to assess its quality and the quality
of the pictures made by it. The most common information in such an advertisement is the image sensor, optical and digital zoom, the
resolution of the LCD screen and the capacity of the memory card.
The classic advertisement is:
- Resolution: 5 Megapixels
- 3 x optical zoom
- 4 x digital zoom
- 2.5-inch LCD screen resolution
For some of the advertisements it's not enough and in such camera that we described above they claim to have
"12 x zoom!!!". Without the basics it's easy to us to be misled by such an advertisement. Later we regret our decision, but
there is nothing we can do with it. I hope that with the aid of this article it will be easiest to you to make the
correct choice and you won't be deceived. However, to make it clear for anybody, i will start from the very beginning.
We can distinguish two types of the cameras - analogue (conventional) and digital. For the first group is characteristic
that the conventional camera consists of the photographic film, which captures light onto. The digital cameras don't
have this device to save the picture. However, they contain the image sensor transmitting the signal about colours to the
processor. It estimates received information and after processing it send it to the memory card of the camera.
Despite this process is much more complex, it's no point to elaborate it any further in this article. Already, the
most important thing is fact that the digital camera save the information on the memory card.
Both, analogue and digital cameras we divide into compact and reflex cameras. Thus, there are four kinds of cameras:
- analogue compact camera
- digital compact camera
- analogue reflex camera
- digital SLR camera
Because this article is sort of my response to the frequent questions to me regarding to the help with choosing the right
camera I will focus only on the digital cameras. Just because you ask of them. I think that the information I contain in
my article, will be helpful for all of you who want to buy digital camera, but who don't have any previous experience.
